UYLC Vision

 Empowering our youth to create a healthy, drug free community.

The Mission of the Upriver Youth Leadership Council is to empower youth and adults to build a heathier community through prevention leadership.

The primary goals of the Upriver Youth Leadership Council are to:

• Foster leadership and resilience skills in our community youth
• Prevent the initiation of youth substance use
• Strategically build a collaborative, sustainable community-wide prevention infrastructure

Sharlene Johnson

UYLC President

Idaho Governors Office of Drug Policy

Sharlene Johnson is a life long Kamiah resident who has a passion for her community. Her professional roots are in prevention and she is currently the Strategic  Prevention Framework Director for the Idaho Governor’s  Office of Drug Policy. 

“I’ve  gotten involved in many activities in my community, and it has been an extremely enjoyable and fulfilling experience. We’re all busy with the things that we decide are priorities for us. If you make a commitment, then it instantly becomes a priority and that is the best way to get something started.”

Tina Brotnov

Kamiah School district, Kamiah After School Program, Director

 

After graduating from Kamiah High she moved to Post Fallls to start a family with her High School sweet heart. There she was a stay at home mom of her four kids and remained at home with them until they had all entered school. In 2011 her family returned to the Kamiah area to help with the family ranch.

The past four years she has dedicated her time to the Kamiah After School Program as well as other local youth programs and activities. "Our youth are our future and I believe in investing in the future."

Kelly Lineberry

The Life Center

After graduating from Timberline High School in the Pierce/Weippe area Kelly married his high school sweetheart Kari. They have two adult daughters, their husbands and six grandchildren. Kelly and Kari have lived in the Kamiah/Kooskia area these past 30 years. They are pastors at The Life Center and they also travel around to help other churches in the Pacific Northwest. They love being involved in the community and helping others. Kelly loves Fords and the Dallas Cowboys! He also loves teaching leadership to people who are interested in helping others.

Sandra Slickpoo

UYLC Board Member

Sandra Slickpoo was born in Sonora, California,  but has been a community member of the Kooskia and Kamiah area since the age of seven. She graduated from Kamiah High School, and has earned a Bachelor's Degree in Native Environmental Science at Northwest Indian College. She is currently a security officer for the Nez Perce Tribal Gaming Enterprise and the Itseyeye Casino.

As a gradparent of five and a member of this community, she has a strong interest in both prevention and the future of our youth. She is looking forward to the opportunity to participate and serve her community in such a postitve way.
