The Strengthening Families Program (SFP) is a highly-researched and impeccable support program for the whole family. This intriguingly simple yet highly practical program is a free 14-week course specifically designed to increase family strengths and durability and reduce risk factors for challenging behaviors in youth (including behavior, emotional, academic, and social struggles).
The Strengthening Families Program will be hosted locally by the Upriver Youth Leadership Council (UYLC). UYLC and interested community members would like to invest in this program to better the lives of families in our area, to build a secure network, and to encourage personal family’s values, traditions, and standards.
The Strengthening Families Program really works! UYLC is excited to announce that this completely free 14-week course begins January 31st, and will be held every Thursday at the Kamiah High School (711 9th St. Kamiah, ID), beginning at 6:00 pm with a delicious meal provided. Registration is required and can be done by contacting the Upriver Youth Leadership Council (413 Main St. Kamiah, ID) at (208)743-0392. Contact UYLC quickly as registration closes January 25th! Families are priorities and this program is designed to specially fit every family. Childcare will be provided upon request and mileage reimbursement is available upon completion of this 14-week course!
In October of 2018, a group of local, invested community members undertook a 12-hour Strengthening Families Program Facilitator training, hosted by the Upriver Youth Leadership Council. These community members will help facilitate every meeting and are excited to create a safe and relaxed environment for great discussion and fun activities. They include teachers, youth mentors, and youth ministry leaders with a singular vision to empower youth and adults by cultivating and building the family unit which directly impacts communities, youth, and futures.
The Strengthening Families Program is not a counseling session with required disclosure, but simply a “safe haven” and strong network to begin to discuss challenges that every family, parent, and teen faces. SFP is designed to be a casual, comfortable discussion among families and friends. It includes individual parent and teen sessions with a trained facilitator to help guide and direct conversation, and concludes with a creative and exciting family activity, plus bonus options for families to “try out” at home.
